AWBW Volunteer day @ Zazou

Let there be no violence

A great way to spend my Sunday today – I helped with a fundraising event for a charitable organization that I have been volunteering and assisting with since I moved to LA.  It’s called A Window Between Worlds (AWBW) and they are a non-profit organization dedicated to using art to help end domestic violence.  It’s a touching and empowering feeling to see battered women and children gain a sense of renewal and power through creative expression.  Their images of hope, survival and strength allow us to be educated, and become “a window between worlds” for survivors taking steps to change their lives.

Today we had a wine tasting fundraising event at Zazou in Manhattan Beach – local companies donated food and wine, merchants donated items such as trips, spa treatments, autographed Lakers items, etc.  Supporters of AWBW and their friends came to enjoy the food and wine as well as bid on the items where all proceeds helped to support AWBW.  I helped the registration area which was fun becuase I was able to sit outside in the warm weather and meet & greet everyone that came up.  The best news though, we raised approx $25,000!  It was such a long day after driving to San Diego for Thao’s bachelorette party the previous night and waking up hecka early just to get back to LA, but knowing the help this will bring and all the good the organization does, as well as the feeling I got just knowing I was there to help make a difference, well, it was more than worth it!
